Back to Work (Tomorrow)

Well, Christmas has come and gone. We had a great time with family and friends. Tracy still has the rest of the week off, but I have to go back tomorrow.
This Christmas has been bittersweet. Christmas Eve service at church was outstanding. I am always in awe of how the Lord has blessed us with the Greatest Gift of all, Jesus.

It was great to see the grandkids' eyes light up when they opened their presents and there was a lot of terrific food. But Allan's holiday was not as much fun. About 4 months ago he got hurt at work. December 23rd he had to have the little finger on his right hand amputated. Since our family Christmas was Christmas Eve at Allan and Jessica's, he spent the evening on high powered pain meds and I'm sure he doesn't remember much about the evening. Through the support of his wonderful wife and many, many prayers, he will come through this and will be back to work in no time. God is truly good! He is very fortunate that it was only his finger. If he had been using the tool like his employer said he should have, the part that malfunctioned would have hit him in the face instead and we might have lost him!

Not only did we spend time with our family and eat way too much, we rode our motorcycles. We rode to Inman yesterday (46 degrees) to see Dad and Barb. Today we just took off and rode around. Today the temp was better (57 degrees). There aren't too many days in December that are warm enought to ride and we took advantage of the day. If you haven't experienced the open road, you haven't lived!

It will be hard to go back to work tomorrow, but this Christmas, with the economy so bad, I am very thankful for my job. Every day is a gift.

The Tradition Continues

Every year the women in our family get together to make Christmas candy. According to Tracy, the only candy we need to make is Peanut Brittle. Chrissy spent the night with us and was awake bright and early to begin making candy. Jessica and Dawn came over too. Sierra stayed at home and had a day with her daddy. Since Jackie had a Sunday School party in the afternoon, she only came for a while. We made fudge, no-bakes, chocolate cherries, peanut clusters, dipped pretzels, peppermint brittle, turtles and just about anything we could dip in chocolate. As you can see by the picture, Chrissy and I really got "into" our work.

Everyone gathered their goodies and everyone was gone by about 3PM. Another year of sweet treats and sweet memories.

A LOT TO BE THANKFUL FOR...

Yes, we have a lot to be thankful for... I am thankful that we have food, shelter, the fellowship of family, the sacrifices of our troops who put their lives on the line every day to preserve our freedom, and most of all, I am thankful for Jesus, who paid the ultimate price for my salvation and salvation for all who accept Him as their personal savior and put their faith and trust in His saving grace.
We all went to Dawn and Josh's house this year for Thanksgiving dinner. Barb had to work, but Daddy came. There were 14 in all... Cecil, Jackie, Rod (my Daddy), Tracy, me (Debbie), Josh, Dawn, Allan, Jessica, Logan, Chrissy, Sierra, Cage & Garrett. I am thankful for each and every one.
Thank you Dawn for being such a great hostess. Everything tasted so wonderful. Dawn made a comment that the house was too small. Her comment brings back memories of Grammie & Gramps' house. (Tracy's grandparents). I remember when we were first married and also when Dawn was little, we would go to Grammie's for Thanksgiving and other family gatherings. Their house was small!!!!!! A tiny duplex with barely room to walk. The food was on the cabinet, table, stove, deep freeze and anywhere else you could find. People were sitting, leaning and standing everywhere there was a spot. Not to mention the kids racing around trying to play amongst the adults. If you happened to get their late, you would have to step over people to get to the kitchen. But, after all these years, the memories of family and just being together made up for the lack of space. Afterall, love grows best in little houses.

This year, like years past, we ate way too much, talked, laughed and told stories and in the end were so full, that we vowed not to eat so much, ever again. Anyone want a turkey sandwich for supper? Later in the evening, we did just that. Cecil and Jackie came over to our house to watch a couple of movies and eat leftovers. :) It was a great day!

Reno Country Toy Run

We participated in the Reno County Toys for Tots "Toy Run" on Sunday November 23rd. More than 700 motorcycles braved the 40 degree weather to ride the route and donate about 1500 toys for area kids. I rode with Tracy, since my bike doesn't have a wind shield. Allan rode his 1500 Vulcan (he is pictured). Jessica was on duty so she couldn't ride. Cecil (dad) rode his trike with Logan riding with him. Jackie isn't up for riding yet (following knee replacement). It was a very cold ride. Tracy would say it was "Invigorating". :) It is all about the kids.............

Misc. Info

It's been a little over a week since Tracy's mom (Jackie) had a knee replacement. She is doing well with her therapy and has a very good nurse (Kelly). She has exercises to do twice a day and goes to therapy three times a week. She is progressing well, but not fast enough according to her. She is such a busy lady, that it drives her nuts not being able to go head long into her activities. Prior to the surgery, she was one of the ladies that coordinated the kitchen at church. One of her duties was to get volunteers to make salads and pies for funeral dinners and she would also serve the dinners. Well, don't think the surgery would stop her. She was calling to ask for salads and pies from "her couch" just a few days after surgery. You can't keep her down long. I praise God for her and pray for a speedy recovery. "Dad is cooking :)"

Well, It's been a little over a month since I got my motorcycle and I LOVE IT! I added a fork bag to carry my "stuff" and added silver flames to the tail and on the front fender. Since I got it so late in the year, the temperature hasn't been the best. When it is cold, I don't ride. Now Tracy is another story. The other morning, it was 31 degrees and he rode. I am NOT that dedicated.

It is less than a week until the presidential election. We seriously need to pray for our country.

House Divided

Boy am I getting ribbed right now. I GOT A BIKE!!!! Yeah :) However, according to our son, Allan and countless others, I got a "Rice-Burner". Oh well, it is a bike. Yes, I got one of the 250 cc Honda Nighthawks that the college motorcycle training class auctioned off. Since it has rained for several days "non-stop", I won't be able to get it until next week.

Amongst all the teasing I am getting, I continue to give the same explanation for getting a "Rice-Burner": This is my training bike. I intend to ride it as much as possible and when I have honed by skills and feel comfortable riding again, I will get a "REAL BIKE." A Harley (Ha Ha)

Until then, me and my little Nighthawk will be tearing up the roads of Hutch.

AWANA Begins...........

Tonight AWANA Clubs begin at our church. AWANA is an acronym for "Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed". This phrase is based on 2 Tim. 2:15. "Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing (cutting Straight) the word of truth." The main focus of AWANA is the gospel. The Prayer of AWANA is that all children and youth throughout the world will come to know, love and serve the Lord Jesus Christ.

I am the Secretary for the Challenger Boys in the T&T (Truth and Training) Club. This is the 5th and 6th grade boys. Our grandson, Logan is in this group. The boys are energetic and ready to learn. My duties involve, taking role, recording sections, ordering awards and helping the Leaders and Directors.

This is very exciting for me. I have never worked in the children's ministry before. My prayer is that God will use me to be a positive influence on these young men and through my work, to God be the glory.

Jeremy Camp "In Concert"

Tracy and I went to the Jeremy Camp concert at the Fair last night. WOW! Jeremy is a Christian rock artist who is totally on-fire for God. The concert was a high energy praise and worship session! Jeremy's testimony of losing his first wife to cancer at age 21 and the fact that he chose to continue to believe in the goodness and faithfulness of God, even in the midst of his loss, was totally amazing. I thank God for people like Jeremy who are not afraid to give the testimony of what Jesus has done for them. During Jeremy's concert he challenged us to speak out to the world in Truth and Love. Her quoted 1 John 3:18 ..."let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth." Jeremy is my idea of a modern day missionary, spreading the Truth about Jesus Christ to the All Nations. Today, Wednesday he is off to Canada. God Bless you Jeremy! Here is a link to his website. http://www.jeremycamp.com/

Successful Surgery

Well, I would like to thank you for your prayers for little Suzie Sanderson. The surgery to install the shunt was a success. You can read the details on their blog. (link to the right) I would like for you to continue to pray for her recovery and continued growth & development. Also pray for Dennis and Susan (grandparents) as they fly back to Kansas Thursday.

The Fair, it's that time again...........

Well, it has been some time since I have written. Many things have happened in our lives. We have worked, loved on our grandkids and of course ridden our motorcycle. (I may even be getting my own again) I put in a sealed bid for a motorcycle auction. I will find out on the 10th if my bid is one of the winners. These bikes are the bikes used by the college for their motorcycle training classes. There are four 250 Honda Nighthawks. It's a pretty small bike and a "Honda" to boot, but it's a bike. This will get me back on two wheels again. The practice on a small bike will also be good. Then,........some day I can get a "real bike".

Tracy is still working hard making buses at Collins. I am still working for Wachocia Securities (formerly AG Edwards) and running my Uppercase Living business (there is a link to my website at the right).

Well, I speak of many things going on in our lives....... Allan hurt his hand at work and is off at least until Sept 10th, when he has an MRI. He has his hand wrapped and is unable to do much. Please pray that he won't have any permanent damage.

Tracy and I both took a turn at riding with Jessica on patrol. From 6PM to 6AM on the streets of Hutch in a police car. There are a lot of really strange people out after dark! We really appreciate Jessica and all the law enforcement personnel that are out keeping our streets safe as we sleep.

Logan started sixth grade and is attending AWANA Club (Challenger Boys) at Church. I am the Secretary for the Boys' Club this year. Chrissy is in Kindergarten and also attends AWANA Club (Sparks Girls). Wow, they grow up so fast. Cage is old enough this year to attend AWANA Club. They are called (Puggles). He is also going to Dawn's day care.

Yes, Dawn is doing day care. She quit the bank and is going to school (both online & night classes). She wants to be a nurse. We need good nurses and she is a very compassionate person. She will make a terrific nurse.

Josh is teaching Biology and coaching football at Fairfield High again this year. With gas prices so high and his lengthy drive back and forth to work, the kids traded off their Durango and bought a new Pontiac G6. It is the most beautiful red color. It reminds me of the bright, shiny candy apples we got at the Fair as a kid.

Speaking of the Fair, it is that time again..................We can sure tell the Fair is here. It has rained for two days. Oh well, we need the rain and a little rain never stopped those that wanted to go to the Fair. Me, I would rather stay home and do my digital scrapbooking. "It's dry and it doesn't cost as much to sit in front of my laptop! "

I haven't spoken of Sierra and Garrett. We kept them overnight last night. That Sierra is so grown up for a three year old. Dawn and Josh were going to take the kids to the Fair today, but it is raining. Sierra woke up and said, "Garrett, wake up! We're going to the Fair!" I told her that it was raining and they will probably wait until the rain stopped. She said, "look, there will be a tent over us, we'll be OK!". What a goof :) Garrett is another story, 15 months old and is a little copy cat. No matter what you say, he tries to repeat it.

My dad and Barb are still in Inman. Daddy has a Harley Sportster that he rides around. He seems to be having fun with it. That's his way of getting out and "getting the stink blown off", as he used to say. :) Barb is working at the nursing home in Inman. She is the "Head of Household" for the independent living area. She has worked for the Home for a lot of years. She is very good at her job and is also a very compassionate person. I told her that Dawn is pursuing a career in nursing and that pleased Barb very much. She too said that Dawn will make a very good nurse.

Tracy parents, Cecil and Jackie are doing pretty good too. Jackie will go in the first part of October for knee surgery. Cecil is hanging out with the coffee bunch at Spangles (just about every morning) and is riding his new Harley Trike. He is still driving truck on a limited basis. He says he still drives to support his habit, "motorcycling". Jackie volunteers for the Hospital gift shop, is Dawn's day care backup, helps with Allan & Jess' kids sometimes She is working partime at the Fair and works many hours for the Church. Boy, I don't know if I want to be retired. This all sounds so tiring.

We are about two and a half weeks away from the "Bikes, Blues & BBQ" rally in Fayetteville AR. Linda and Delmas Ridge are riding down with us. We have been invited to stay at Marge Tracy's house in Bella Vista again. Marge is working with bus tours and will be leaving the day we arrive. She is a terrific friend and we feel it a privilege to be invited to stay at her house. If this trip is anything like last year, the weather was great, the people were very nice and we had a terrific time. Tracy and I always look forward to a rally. This one especially. Riding around in the Ozarks and enjoying the splendor of God's beauty is just awesome!

Finally, I would like to request prayer for my boss' granddaughter, Suzie. (I have a link to their blog to the right). She was born 3 month premature and is getting better, but faces surgery on Monday the 8th to have a shunt installed. She has fluid building up on her brain and doctors have been inserting a syringe and withdrawing it daily. I don't understand the entire process, but this will allow the fluid to drain into her body and the body will dispose of it. This will keep her from having to undergo the draining procedure daily. She was 1 lb 14 oz at birth and is now up to 4 pounds. She will be in the hospital for some time and has a long road ahead. Her father, Kyle is a seminary student at Masters Seminary in California and her mother, Stephanie is the Church Secretary. They are both involved in the Children's ministry at their Church. They are so grounded in their faith and are trusting that God has a plan for Suzie and they are loving that little girl more each day. My boss (Granddad Dennis) and his wife (Nana Susan) are flying out today (Saturday) to LA to be there for Suzie's surgery Monday. Since Suzie is so little, this surgery will tax her little body. Please pray for her ability to endure the shock, for wisdom for the doctors and for strength for the family as they love and encourage one another. Read the blog if you want to know more about this outstanding, God loving family.

Thanks, God Bless and take care

Debbie

Loss of a Friend

Well, Saturday (8-2-08) was a sad day. Tracy had to have our Dakota put down. Dakota was a faithful friend. He lived more than 12 years. I remember when he was younger, he would go hunting with Tracy and Allan. He was a daddy twice and spent many hours laying under the tree in the back yard. We are gonna miss you "Little Guy".

Life is Good

Lately we have been blessed with good health and are enjoying life. Our kids (Dawn & Allan) are both married and we love to spend time with them and our five grandchildren.

Dawn in opening a Day Care in her home, as she will be taking night classes to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse. Her husband Josh, is a High School Biology teacher and has already started fall football practice. (He is a coach). Their daughter, Sierra is a very energetic, intelligent 3 year old. Her brother, Garrett (15 month), is all boy. His favorite thing is his Papa. (No one can do it like "Papa")

Allan runs a service truck for a local tire company & spends his spare time camping and hanging out with his family. Jessica, his wife is in law enforcement. Their oldest child, Logan is 12 and into the normal pre-teen "stuff" (skateboarding, video games & hanging out). Chrissy (5) will go to Kindergarten this year. She has the most beautiful blond hair. "Daddy will have to fight off the boys one day". Now the youngest, Cage (2yrs) is a chip off the old block. He looks like his daddy did when he was little and just as ornery.

Tracy is still a welder building buses. He has been welding for 30 years, wow! His first love, after me "of course" is our motorcycle. The best way to relax after a stressful week is to hit the OPEN ROAD!

I, Debbie am still in the brokerage business. I am a registered client associate and have worked for the same firm for almost eight years. I too, love to ride motorcycles. I had my own bike and sold it. Bad idea. I really want another one. Maybe someday. In the meantime, I ride behind Tracy and enjoy the beauty of God's handiwork.

Cousins Reunion

July 4th weekend in Vici, Oklahoma..........Tracy and I ride our bike, Cecil and Jackie ride their new trike. The reunion is at a church camp. Shelly, Shawn & Teresa spend many, many hours pulling it all together. Aunt Millie does all the cooking. We are very excited. All 14 cousins are together. The last time this happened was 1974.

Giant Redwoods

We frequently take our vacations in the form of a motorcycle trip. This year we decided to take "to the air". We are very fortunate that we booked our trip early in order to lock in lower airfares.

On May 23rd off to California. Our take-off is delayed 2 hours due to storms in the area the night before. The flight crew hadn't had any down-time and they aren't able to fly without a 6 hour break, so we wait. Since our flight was delayed, we had to change our connecting flight in Denver. Long story short, we lost our rental car. Tracy wanted to rent a "Charger" to drive up the coast. Well, when we finally got to the rental car place, they gave away the Charger. We got a Dodge Magnum instead. (similar to the Charger, but a sport wagon). So off we went. We check into the hotel and go to visit Don & Inez Creps. Lisa and Bev (their daughters) are there as well.

The week is full of sightseeing and fellowship with our old friends. We go back to San Francisco to Pier 39 and drive up Highway 1 along the coast. Our main goal was to see the Redwoods. I have only seen them in pictures. Tracy has spoken many times of the beauty in northern California. So off we go to "Avenue of the Giants". Wow! The view is breathtaking. We drive THROUGH a tree. This is awesome...... We drive up Mt Shasta, winding around and around. We stop at 6900 ft. There is still snow on the mountain, therefore we can't go any higher. We get out of our car and take in the crisp mountain air.

We drive to Lodi to visit some other friends.

We go see Beverly Creps' horse. Inez and the girls take us past the house that Tracy and his parents lived in when he was a kid. We reminisce about the old days. We eat way too much, we catch up and laugh a lot. The Creps' are a wonderful family.

The week goes very fast.......................... As our vacation comes to an end, we reflect on the many terrific conversations with our friends and the splendor of the beauty in northern California. We have now written another chapter in our journey to see the wonders of God.

P.S. After putting 1500 miles on the rental car, we liked the Magnum so much that we came home and bought one. Pretty expensive vacation, huh?
